Oh, who’s even surprised? I spilled my drink on his fancy chinos, yes. They call it an accident for a reason. Is it happenstance or fate?
This guy’s new to the area. He and his boyfriend just moved in across the street from my coffee place. Well, not my coffee place, I don’t own it or anything. I just go there every day. Now Alex does too.
I wasn’t in the market for a new BFF, but Alex is attentive, smart, the kind of guy any woman would want in her life. Yes, he also happens to be yummy hot. Just my luck he’s…
Except it’s not true.
For weeks, he’s lied to me. There’s no boyfriend. The one-bed apartment is a prop. He isn’t Alex Payne, regular Joe, he’s Xander Gauge, secret billionaire. It was all a con. Our whole friendship. Everything was fiction.
It should be over. Done. Except… he says he loves me. Can it be true? I don’t know if I can get over this.
Do I forgive him or forget him?

Writing has always been a big part of my life. Since I was a child I've known exactly where my passion lay. No matter what's gone on in my life writing has been my touchstone. After all, we all need a place to escape to. Reading is my idea of heaven. There's nothing I like more than to switch everything off, close the bedroom door, and curl up with a good book. I have a feeling that's something all at Goodreads can identify with.
Thanks for taking the time with me today. Now do something for yourself, go and curl up in your own reading heaven.
Rainie and Xander—they meet when she spills her coffee all over him in a coffee shop. And then while he’s in the restroom cleaning up, his phone rings and she answers it; his friend on the other end implies that Xander’s gay and they’re together. Not only does she peg him as gay, thanks to his friend, she becomes good friends with who she thinks he is. Which is a bit more complicated than most might expect because he’s in Chicago as a deal between him and two of his best friends who also happen to work with him in his conglomerate company. He’s supposed to see if he can strike up a regular relationship with a woman as a “regular Joe” without the influence of his title or his wealth. He falls hard for Rainie and it takes some doing and some rough times to get past his initial deception. And Rainie gets blitzed by the force that is Roxie, as well. In the end, though, they’re starting on their HEA.

This book, like the rest of the series is a fantastic read and proves why Scarlett is my favourite author. This book starts with a bet between friends. There is a meeting where Rainie literally bumps into Xander, from there a friendship blossoms. Unfortunately, there are a few bumps in the road along the way because of a misunderstanding. This book has managed to make me laugh out loud, break my heart and make me swoon. This is why I love the way Scarlett writes, because she manages to evoke my emotions. I'm loving this series and would recommend it without thinking twice about it ❤❤
Roux & Xavien. The two dumbest names on the planet. Roxie is brash and Zairn is debonair and charming, which I loved. Roux & Xavien are equally domineering and brash and they rival Roxie & Zairn for my top couple.
I really like this series but this book was a little different then the rest of them and didn’t connect much to the east of the series until almost the end. It was not my favorite of the series so far.
