Children ask many questions about God and spiritual issues. These four books from Carolyn Nystrom's popular series tackle some of the most difficult and important questions about our faith. Abridged and repackaged, these mini books make answering these questions easier for adults and more fun for little ones. With colorful illustrations and simple language, these books help children ages 2-5 develop their understanding of Christianity.
The illustrations of this book are American/Hollywood stereotypical. The only people with ashy dark brown hair or black hair are Asian and African descent. The Asian girl is yellow and dressed in yellow as well. Everyone else is a redhead or blond.
Aside from the offensive illustrations, the salvation message is to ask forgiveness for you sins, believe in the salvation of the Cross through Christ, and decide that you want to belong to him. And this is all good but the bible whom the protestants take as the final word teaches us that we must be baptized to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and partake of the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. You cannot be selective when it comes to the salvation message. You must do as Jesus himself did as an example and told us to do.
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
53 Jesus said to them, “Verily truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. John 6:53-58
So, if you have the possibility of doing as he commanded for salvation, then you must do it in your Christian walk. That is what is it, carrying your Cross and having a Christian walk.
The book explains the basics of Christianity very well and in terms most children will understand. The illustrations, drawn by Mika Itou, are very cute. I haven't read the English one, but I enjoyed the Japanese one. It was also good Japanese reading practice for me.
