Although I can't imagine standing out in the cold for hours while waiting for fish to bite through a hole drilled in the ice, the author makes the experience sound like lots of fun. This book, intended for young readers, offers plenty of cautionary words about safety and treating the fish and the environment with respect so that there are no accidents and others will have a chance to fish in the area as well. In addition to providing a brief history of ice fishing, the author describes the bait and equipment that are needed. The book contains plenty of photographs and a chart that allows readers to determine whether the ice is safe enough to hold weight.
