About the author

Charlotte Guillain has written over 100 books, both fiction and nonfiction. Her most well-known titles are the 'George's Amazing Adventures' picture book series, including 'Spaghetti with the Yeti' and 'Pizza for Pirates'. 'Spaghetti with the Yeti' was shortlisted for nine awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. Before writing children's books, Charlotte worked as a bookseller, a teacher of English as a Foreign Language, and an editor.

Di sebuah kampung kucing, tinggal para kucing yang punya koleksi mainan keren. Tapi mereka khawatir dengan seekor anjing yang mengincar mainan tersebut. Jadi diadakanlah musyawarah para kucing untuk mengantisipasi bila terjadi pencurian oleh si anjing. Keputusan musyawarah adalah: seekor kitten ditunjuk untuk menjaga mainan tersebut. "Kalau si anjing datang, kamu tinggal teriak 'DOG'!" kata tetua kucing.

Tugas pun dimulai. Awalnya sih kitten senang menjadi bodyguard, tapi lama kelamaan bosan juga. Kitten pun iseng. Keisengan seperti apa yang ia lakukan?

Cerita dan pesan moral dalam buku ini sudah banyak diangkat di berbagai cerita, terutama kisah fabel. Tapi yang bikin segar adalah tokohnya (kucing dan anjing) dan ceritanya yang menggunakan mainan sebagai tool. Mainan kan selalu disukai anak-anak. Kucing dan anjing juga hewan yang dekat dengan kehidupan anak-anak. Ilustrasinya juga bagus!

The Kitten Who Cried Dog is part of the Animal Fairy Tales series. The simple retelling of the Boy who cried wolf story is retold from the perspective of a naughty kitten who is easily bored and enjoys making the townfolk come running when the kitten alerts them to the danger of a dog nearby.
The best past of this series is the author's notes in the back of the book explaining the history of the fairy tale. I liked this part.
