When an unstoppable evil force known only as ‘the Reaper’ seeks to break into Kal’s world, his life becomes intrinsically linked to that of Daine, a ruthless female assassin. Boy and girl must face challenges both together and apart if Kal is to save his father who lies in a chamber far away, and Daine is to discover why she has been called away from everything she has ever known.
Kal must travel further than he has ever been before, alone, except for the sporadic guidance of his father’s best friend, the mysterious Juquor. Relentlessly pursued by the deadly Arrochom, he must show maturity beyond his years to fight prejudice, solitude and the fears that cramp his every waking moment if he is to find a way back to his father.
Daine finds herself in another world, ripped from the comfort of the profession that is all she has ever known, unable even to converse with those around her. Confronted with feelings from a missing adolescence and forced to learn everything she once knew again, she must battle with her gender and revisit painful memories if she is to find purpose and quell the daemons that stalk her dreams.

*I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review*
I'm one of those readers who generally see a plot twist coming, it's usually easy for me, but this book blew me away! I didn't see the ending coming and there is so much action! I was never bored. It wastes no time at all before jumping right into it. This book isn't just a young adult book as I could see older people who aren't teenagers (like me), will love it! The characters are so freaking real, not many authors can make me feel like their characters could actually exist but this author did! I found myself on the edge of my seat (well, it's just a saying as I usually read laying down in my comfy bed but you guys get what I mean). I was nervous for the characters, hoping they wouldn't get hurt.
Long story short, get this book, give it a shot and you will not be disappointed!
The plot is intriguing. The characters are so well imagined and described that you feel you have been known them for ages! when I was reading the book, I completely lost contact with reality. I felt as if I were in another world, in another dimension...struggling with them, supporting them through all their adventures, trying to anticipate what their next move would be. Just to give you an idea of how engrossed I was in the reading: not one but two vegetable soups get burnt while I was reading the book ..... I totally forgot about them!!! A must-read!
"The Chamber" was provided to me in eBook format free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
Even though there is immediate action in this story, it took me about 15 pages before I was "sucked in" to the story.
However, it was worth the wait. Daine and Kal are wonderful characters and readers will find themselves rooting for them. The author does a terrific job of creating characters that are engaging and interesting. Additional characters are also introduced such as Juquor, who you can't help but like, and The Jade Sorceress who is richly depicted.
There are many more characters included in this saga and readers of all ages will find that they identify with at least one of them.
This book can only be described as "epic". The scope of the world that Dominic King has created is impressive and anyone who enjoyed LOTR will enjoy this book.
It is a difficult task to write a story that encompasses so much information and that follows the paths of two separate (but linked) characters, but Dominic King has done a superb job.
I am excited to start book two of the series.
If it wasn't for some minor editing issues, such as "He rubbed his hand over his the bruised area..." I would have given this book 5 out of 5 stars. As is, I give it 4 out of 5.
The Chamber was definitely not a run of the mill YA fantasy thriller. It was much more than that and will appeal to an older audience.
I loved the multi-character point of views of Kal and Daine and the vivid descriptions of Kal's world and the twin world. The search to find Kal's father in a chamber (location unknown) forces him to grow up fast and face adult situations and challenges that could cost him his life and the lives of those he loves.
Daine, a skilled assassin but also still a child at heart, doubts who she is and all that she was trained to do.
These two characters along with the evil that relentlessly pursue them makes this a great read for teens, young adults and lovers of fantasy dystopian fiction.
I look forward to book 2 of the Twin Worlds trilogy.
I like that you got to see what was happening in the story from both characters’ perspectives, although it did make the story a bit confusing at first. Usually when I read these kind of books, each chapter has the characters’ names at the start of the chapter which helps you to know, “Okay, we are going with this character.” With this book, you had to pay attention to the start of each part.
The story moved along at a great clip. You got to know who the bad guys were, and the descriptions of the monsters was nicely done. I like the back story that was filled in as you went along in the book. Both characters were developed in their skills by various other characters. This is a well thought-out first novel and sets the stage for a fantastic series.
The Chamber is the beginning of what I feel to be an excellent series. Dominic King created an exciting world full of magic and adventure.
This book had some of the same similarities that I’ve read before, but also so much different. The way he creates twin worlds and makes them backwards is really cool, and I also enjoyed reading about Kal’s and Daines adventures in their own chapters.
I was given The Chamber for exchange for an honest review, and I’m so glad I did! This book to me was fun and adventures. I recommend it to the young and old, and everyone in between, and I can’t wait to read on with the adventure in the second book of the series:)
Considering this was a story about two separate mission from the characters. I adored the fact that multiple times throughout the book, their paths crossed and they were thrown into multiple situations together and apart.
The description of this book was incredible. I got a clear picture of what the characters looked like, the places they were in and the things they both came across. I applaud the author on his writing style because it was really incredible to read.
An overall rating: 4/5.
I really enjoyed the plot and the story overall.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Would strongly recommend this book to readers who like works by authors such as George RR Martin and Brandon Sanderson.
Action-packed and fast-moving, The Chamber tells the story of Kal and Daine in alternating chapters. Suspense is kept high throughout the book and there are some great plot twists.
I was incredibly lucky to receive an e-book copy of The Chamber (Twin Worlds Trilogy #1) directly from the author Dominic H. King in exchange for an honest review.
The story is told from the dual perspectives of Kal and Daine and we follow them in their quest to save their own world from the same evil called the Reaper. The dual perspective is done extremely well and it is immediately obvious which character you are following in each chapter.
Kal and Daine are both excellent characters and are really well developed. I don't think I can say if I had a favourite between the two as they both have their own good points and bad, I really enjoyed their different and yet similar journeys to their final destination towards the end of the book. There is a whole host of really interesting characters too, I particularly like Thaan the head Shadow. he has a really good back story and he is a complete bad ass. I hope we see more of him in the future books.
The worlds are really well built and the enemy, particularly the Arrochom so far, are described in all their horrifying glory. Imagine giant spider type things with pincers that scream. They are definitely terrifying.
The story itself is incredibly enjoyable and it was very hard to put down as I always wanted to read "just one more chapter" to see what happened next. It's also very fast paced and I think incredibly well written and thought out.
My only real complaint about the whole book was the second half seemed to not have been edited or proof read as there seemed to be a lot of errors. None of them were big enough to pull you completely out of the story luckily, but there was all of sudden from about half way through a lot of them.
Overall I really loved this book and I really look forward to reading the next two books in the trilogy to see what happens to both Kal and Daine and to see if they can succeed in their mission.
