Anne Wingate, born in 1943 as Martha Anne Guice, is a mystery writer currently living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Most of her mysteries are set somewhere within Texas. She is an adult convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and this sometimes shows in her works. She grew up in the Disciples of Christ Church.

Wer gerne ein bisschen altmodische Ermittlerkrimis aus den 80ern liest ist mit diesem Sammelband mit 3 Romanen aus der Deb Ralston-Reihe gut bedient.

Deb Ralston ist eine Mitarbeiterin im Sonderdezernat des texanischen Fort Worth. Sie ist eine Frau um die 40, hat 3 (nahezu) erwachsene Adoptivkinder (nur der jüngste Sohn wohnt noch zu Hause) und einen sehr netten und geduldigen Ehemann.

Obwohl Fort Worth fast 1 Mio. Einwohner hat ist die Atmosphäre in den Büchern eher kleinstädtisch oder vorstädtisch. Das mag an der Entstehungszeit der Bücher liegen oder vielleicht war Fort Worth vor 35 Jahren auch noch viel kleiner.

Obwohl alle Morde in den 3 Geschichten meiner Ansicht nach ziemlich brutal und blutrünstig waren, vermitteln die Romane die meiste Zeit das Gefühl eines cozy Krimis. Deb Ralston ist zwar mit Leib und Seele Polizistin, und zwar eine sehr gute, kommt aber in erster Linie als sehr mütterliche warmherzige Frau rüber.

Im ersten Roman versucht jemand, einem Schizophrenen den Mord an seiner ganzen Familie in die Schuhe zu schieben, im zweiten Roman wird eine hochschwangere Frau ermordet in einem Abflussrohr aufgefunden und im dritten Roman geht es um einen Mord an einer ältlichen und mittlerweile ziemlich verwirrten Hollywood-Diva.

Ich fand das Buch recht unterhaltsam und gut zu lesen und vergebe 3 sehr gute Sterne.

If you like to read old-fashioned police procedurals from the 80s, this anthology with 3 novels from the Deb Ralston series will suit you.

Deb Ralston is a member of the special department in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a woman around 40, has 3 (almost) adult adopted children (only the youngest son still lives at home) and a very nice and patient husband.

Although Fort Worth has a population of nearly 1 million, the atmosphere in the books is rather small-town or suburban. That may be because of the time the books were written, or maybe Fort Worth was much smaller 35 years ago.

Although all the murders in the 3 stories were pretty brutal and bloodthirsty in my opinion, most of the time the novels have the feel of a cozy crime thriller. Deb Ralston is a police officer through and through, and a very good one, but first and foremost comes across as a very maternal, warm-hearted woman.

In the first novel someone tries to blame a schizophrenic for the murder of his entire family, in the second novel a heavily pregnant woman is found murdered in a drainpipe and the third novel is about the murder of an elderly and now rather confused Hollywood diva.

I found the book quite entertaining and easy to read and ratr it with 3 very good stars.
