This book (I hope) will really prepare me for my trip to Argentina. The authors spend a great deal of time explaining the culture and history of the place you are visiting. It is not so much a guide, like Lonely Planet or others, although it does have some recommendations of places to stay/eat in the back. This book is more about describing the different areas of Argentina and what you may find in each. I definitely recommend it!
This is not the most in-depth travel companion. For me it did a better job of helping me get excited for my trip than actually providing useful information (hotels, restaurants, museums, etc.). Unless you have lots of room in your luggage, I'd leave this at home while traveling in lieue of Rough Guide or Lonely Planet. This also makes for a good coffee-table book when you return to remind you of your fabulous Argentina vacation.
If I don't get that summer teaching job in Macau I've applied for, I've decided I'm going to go to Argentina instead. The last Insight Guide I read (for Norway), was pretty good, so I'm starting my Argentinian research here. Hey, lotsa pretty pictures and easy-to-digest chapters on culture and major areas - where can ya go wrong?
