Rate this book
One Swedish winter morning, a normally placid engineer gives his boss a well deserved slap in the face. The question, “What’s wrong with this idiot?” sends Nilson and his friends on an inquest into the dark corners of the human psyche. But this is no crime investigation, as the elusive perpetrator is hiding in the most secret of all secret places, where the police cannot go.

Peeling away the layers of society over beer and pizza, they start to uncover something dangerous lurking in the minds of people – something that threatens the survival of the human race.

Soon the truth telling becomes personal as they turn the light towards themselves.

Through the four seasons of a Scandinavian year we join Nilson and his friends at the round table of Pizzeria Salamander, as they dig deeper and deeper. We follow them home and on travels, with their families, struggling with raising their children, loving their partners and facing the age-old enigmas of death and spirituality.

What do this group of ordinary working people uncover when they take the time to really essay into the questions of the Good, the True and the Beautiful?

And what could happen if we, the ordinary working people of the world, learn to identify dangerous destructive people and NOT elect them to positions of leadership?

Reader's comment:
"The Salamander Club reads like a psychological and philosophical adventure story. The Salamanders are a bunch of ordinary human beings, with an uncanny and extraordinary ability to take a fresh look at things. They set out on a journey to pin down a secret parasite residing deep within the human soul. A parasite that has the power to destroy companies, play havoc with entire countries, as well as severely damage our most precious personal relationships. Be prepared to discover that you too may be among those infected.
Their conversations shed new clarity on some of the most widespread and destructive psychological forces at play in our modern world. Their personal struggles with these ideas touch me at a deeply emotional level, and inspire me to look for the deepest and most authentic human qualities in my own life." - Lasse Ramquist

This is a very different kind of book. It's making me think differently about how I see people at work, at home, and even how I see myself.
It's making me ask questions.
Why is the world the way it is?
Why are we the way we are?
Why are our bosses / leaders the way they are?
How can they do what they do?

It seems the answer lies in a Narcissus Parasite that hides deep in our psyche.

Where is this going to end?

"An intriguing combination of a novel and a philosophy that is pertinent to today's world------whether you're already a believer in the authors' view of what plagues the success of mankind, or simply interested in broadening your scope of understanding, The Salamander Club is a worthy read. It will make you think about your place in the world and maybe even urge you to change for the better."
