From the cover: "This witty, wise, and practical handbook is designed to aid the wartime wife in solving the perplexities of her strange, new, and husbandless world."
This book is a real period piece. Written by a woman whose husband has gone to war, this book is a survival guide for WWII-era wives left behind on the home front.
It covers topics as varied as working outside the home, home repair, dealing with pushy men, ration cards, nutrition, being (essentially) a single parent, and how to tell different military uniforms apart.
A lot of the advice is necessarily dated. There's a bunch of "keep yourself looking good for his sake" going on. But it's an interesting look into the beginnings of women's independence, and a fascinating window into the life of women in that era.
