Goed verteld verhaal over een meisje dat in Brazilië achtergelaten wordt door haar moeder. De schrijnende toestand in het weeshuis, het leven op straat, het misbruik als huisslaafje.
Maar ook over haar gevecht om iets van haar leven te maken en zich uiteindelijk zelf te bekommeren om straatkinderen en kinderen die in extreme armoede leven.
Zorgvuldig onder woorden gebracht, zodat het niet te rauw is om te lezen.
Mooi.

An unbelievable sad story that catches the attention from the first page and won't let you go.
The writing style [Dutch translation] was a bit bothering me. It fits the thoughts of the child, like in the first part of the story, but it remains the same style even when she's grown up, with a lot of unnecessary exclamation marks.
But just because this is a eye-opening story, it is a must read.
