This book is a gift of advice to be given and received-a treasury of simple, powerful ideas that have transmitted the experience of generations.
It began when Allen Appel asked hundreds of sons, young and old, to recall the most memorable and valuable words their fathers told them. There came an outpouring of things practical and indispensable-some familiar, many surprising-that you now hold in your hand.
From Father to Son celebrates the trials and satisfactions of manhood, and captures dads' uncanny knack for seeing ahead. It is a useful gift any man can give proudly, perhaps remembering-and maybe even recording in it-something his own father said.
An average read, contains set of quotes, short anecdotes.
My favourite one:
Two horses were pulling a cart. One horse was barely leaning against the traces, the other was pulling for all he was worth. The driver was whaling away at the horse who was giving all he had. A bystander asked, “Why don’t you beat the other horse?” The driver replied, “Don’t you know? You always beat the horse that pulls.” See, everybody piles the biggest load on the willing horse.
We were a strange family, though I suppose we all are. So I was as stunned as touched when my dad (who notoriously doesn't really read) gave me this little book for my 18th birthday. inside he had jotted "I'm sure you already know most of this stuff. Love, Dad." Nothing but sentimentality here, folks. Gonna rate it high.
That wisdom that fathers have in sport , love , womans , work , fight , marriage Should walk through generations There are immovables that will never change or be colored or denied Fathers knows them best ! 👨🏻🍼.
