When Elizabeth Bathory discovers the blood of maidens will keep her young, she sets off on a killing spree that lasts for years and results in the deaths of hundreds. When finally caught, she is walled up inside her own castle, still young and beautiful while being denied the adoration she so craves. Then a young priest, seeking fame and advancement, comes to try to save her. Will her need for his flesh be stronger than his need for her soul? Based on a true story, Elizabeth Bathory is widely considered to be one of the inspirations for Dracula. [Drama (Play in 5 Scenes) Released in 2012 by Dragonfly Publishing, Inc.]
Interesting concept, although from what I understood, Bathory was allowed to see no one during her entombment. But considering how many books about Bathory are out there, this was a clever way to tell "this version" of her story.
In reality, I doubt Bathory would have spoken to a priest, as the church (and in fact the local parish priest) had a large role in Bathory's arrest, trial (for which she was not even present) and conviction.
Presented as a play in dramatic verse, ELIZABETH BATHORY is a smart rendition of the true-life medieval countess who served as one of the influences for Bram Stoker's DRACULA story.
