Former Los Angeles Ram Rosey Grier now writes a novel that probes the gritty reality of urban street life--a story that shows how one person can really make a difference. Brett Holiday, an aging football star, discovers that there is more to life than sports, when he meets an orphan whose search for love collides with Brett's search for meaning.
In “Shooting Star” by Rosey Grier, Brett Holiday has to figure himself out through adversity. Brett and his wife are fighting, Brett realizes he didn’t treat his wife right and says “tell me what a fool I am, how I was wrong and you were right? Aren’t you even gonna say I told you so? (27)” Ariane refuses to talk back to him and it really hurts their relationship. Ariane for the first time since they had gotten married had regretted being Brett’s wife. While Brett tries to keep his relationship with Ariane stable and happy he must also worry about saving his football career. “Here he was, star quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, watching his fast track career about to be sidetracked by a knee injury and a younger hotshot player just aching to replace him.” Brett’s injury makes him realize that his career is on the verge of fading while his wife’s is just beginning to bloom. Brett must fight through the adversity while figuring things out about himself on the way.
Quick read. Did not want to put the book down. Good story of a football player nearing the end of his career and his chance encounter with a homeless teen.
