An enchanting journey uncovering the delights of Wales. Jamie Owen spent the summer weeks exploring the rich diversity of the Welsh landscape. Along the way he shed the label of "the Welshman who hasn't climbed Snowdon", wandered in the footsteps of Wordsworth and enjoyed the cultural delights of Llangollen International Eisteddfod. "Wales" is the story of Jamie's journey and the people he met along the way. Places visited include Snowdon, The Wye Valley, Anglesey, The Brecon Beacons, Llangollen, Betws-y-Coed and an unforgettable journey along the Heart of Wales railway line.
This is quite an interesting book about Owen's travels through Wales as he visits and uncovers some of the well known and not so well known gems hidden in the Welsh mountains. He starts with the Heart of Wales railway line as well as kayaking down the Wye Valley, driving through the Beacons and finally making it to the top of Snowdon (on foot!). Its told in a very conversational manner, which I'm sure some would love but I wasn't quite expecting so I was a little disappointed as I was hoping for a more travel guide type of approach (he does warn of this in his introduction but I was already committed by then). Not a bad read and some great photos that really show the country off and prove that it doesn't always rain!
