Although I had some small experience with WordStar in the early eighties while publishing Left Court: The Journal of the Socialist Party of Illinois, most of my work was with WordPerfect as my employer, Loyola University Chicago, supported it. In that world I became most familiar and adept with WP 5.1, proficient enough to edit a book containing several foreign languages, particularly ancient Greek. Indeed, it's probably the closest I've ever come to understanding and actually utilizing the features of a large software program.
When I switched from DOS operating systems to Windows 3.1 I naturally migrated into the versions of WordPerfect designed for it. However, by this time, the early nineties, MSWord was coming into prominence and WP was in decline. I read this guide to little effect because by the time I'd finished it I was mostly using MSWord myself.
