When an alpha Delta Force leader and a prosecuting attorney meet at a bondage club, which one will be the top and which one the bottom?
Slade Donovan has been a Delta Force team leader for years and the missions are beginning to wear on him. He’s been a Dom for longer than that, but now he’s tired of the string of faceless women and wants to find the right sub and form a permanent relationship. Someone who understands his life and can deal with it.
Kari Malone excels in her role as a prosecuting attorney but the iron control she needs to do it gets tiring. And her search for the right man is fraught with disappointments. When a friend introduces her to the D/s scene, she finally finds an arena where she is able to both shed her mantle of control and indulge in her sexual fantasies. She meets Slade, also a guest, and their brief connection is instant and intense.
Five years pass before they meet again. By now, as Butterfly Kari has created an alternative life for herself at The Edge, a very private bondage club. Her search for the right man falters when she realises none of them can compete with the memory of the man she met in Chicago. When Slade turns up at The Edge it’s apparent from "Hello" that the heat between them has been simmering all this time and is about to explode. But can each of them provide what the other needs to make this work?

Unconditional Surrender (Attack Force #1) By Desiree Holt 4 stars M/F Romance Triggers: Stalking, kidnapping I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
This is a love story about Kari and Slade. They met years ago and had a wild night. Now, several years later, they both still remember that one night. Neither has ever really been able to have a relationship, the love for their jobs overtakes everything, but that one night is a night they will never forget.
When Kari moves to Texas in order to escape a stalker, she's just getting underway when her friends show varying degrees of concern and talk her in to attending a small party. While reluctant to go out because of her past, she finally agrees.
Slade is just home from a mission that didn't go as planned. While he and his men recuperate at his ranch, he is extended an invitation to a small party and agrees to get his men to show up too. While there, he sees Kari, someone he never thought he'd see again.
Kari and Slade pick up almost where they left off. However, with Kari seemingly jumpy, Slade knows something is up. While they rekindle their love affair, Kari's friends are trying to figure out who is still stalking her and why. While they are tracking down the stalker, Kari seems to relax in to her new life. Things seem to be turning around for both her and Slade.
This story is predictable, but enjoyable. You have a satisfactory resolution and I can't wait to see if all of the other guys Slade works with will get their own story.
Want to see two strong, dominant characters collide in the bedroom? If so, this might just be a book for you.
Slade Donavan is the leader of a Delta Force team. But he’s so much more than just an alpha male on the battlefield, he also likes to dominate in the bedroom, a role he prides himself in. But what happens when he wants more than just a woman to play with, what happens when he needs someone to share his life with? Kari, an assistant district attorney, works hard and plays hard too. But since a meeting with a Dom, when she was a young, naïve sub, five years ago, she’s been searching for that very Dom but without success.
The author introduces us to Slade first in this book; he’s in Afghanistan doing his thing with his team. I got the feeling I was being introduced to them as I got a description of each and they planned their ‘downtime’ trip to Slade’s ranch . This included hopes of taking a visit to The Edge, Slade’s local BDSM club. This was all a nice way to build reader anticipation – you just know its going to get good and raunchy when a group of hot guys are intending ‘that’ sort of evening.
Coincidences sometimes don’t work well in novels, but this one, I am happy to say hit all the right buttons. The Dom Kari has been dreaming of is Slade, and they bump into each other at The Edge. Slade is thrilled that when he introduced Kari to BDSM she obviously enjoyed it enough to learn more, play more. Kari is overjoyed that the man no one else can live up to has her naked, manacled and crying for more strikes within minutes. This is one hot scene – grab yourself an electric fan.
But the book goes deeper than that because both Slade and Kari are looking for more than just fun in the bedroom. They sense a connection and a similar sense of life goals. Ms Holt portrays their romance beautifully with dates, sweet kisses and getting to know one another. All a stark contrast to the wild sessions of kink at The Edge. There is also a good dose of war-zone action if you like the grittiness of fighting soldiers.
Unconditional Surrender is well written, has compelling characters and is very sexy. It’s a good length to lose yourself in and I for one would be happy to see what stories the other members of this Delta Force team have to tell.
Have you ever started reading a book and immediately fall in love with the characters? That's what happened for me with this book.
Slade is not only Delta Force he is also a rancher. Gorgeous and intense he still remembers the woman he had a one-night stand with five years ago. He couldn't find her afterward since she had been a guest of a guest at the party where they met. It didn't help that he didn't have her real name either.
Kari has had to stealthily relocate because of a stalker. Now living in San Antonio she finds her thoughts often wander to the man she met at a gathering in Chicago. She spent the hottest night of her life with him and she finds herself comparing other men to him. On a ten day leave between assignments, Slade and his team retreat to his ranch outside San Antonio. The peaceful atmosphere is cathartic and brings a sense of normal back to these hard fighting heroes.
Attending a small get together thrown by a JAG officer and his wife, these men each find someone of interest before the night is over.
Most surprising to them is that Slade, found someone and left the party within fifteen minutes. They of course didn't know the connection between him and Kari.
Desiree turns up the heat immediately and doesn't disappoint. Between the attraction and Slade's 'Spidey' sense you know the excitement and tension is just going to build.
We get to know Slade's team as well, as they meet possible love interests. One who caught my attention is Marc who has his own unique issues, although Beau is definitely a character.
I really enjoyed this new version and I can't wait for the next one to be re-released!
Kari and Slade met five years ago and had a life changing night of passion. Due to their circumstances, neither revealed their true name and Kari left early the next morning. They run into each other at a party and reconnect pretty much immediately. How they deal wirh each other and their baggage—his job and her stalker—makes for an entertaining read.
I’ve not read any other books by this author and only picked up this book due to a rec from one of my favorite authors. I was very pleasantly surprised. The book is well written in every way. Technically I saw no errors of any kind. The setting was so authentic that I might have written it myself. One of the restaurants where the H and h eat happens to be a particular favorite of mine, and the description was completely accurate. But the quality writing goes beyond the technicality. It felt like the book was deliberately plotted, and the suspense was well planned. Clues were dropped early on, and while it wasn’t too hard to figure out who the bad guy was it still felt satisfying due to the foreshadowing. The book was sequences well, with romance, passion, and suspense interspersed and proportioned well. All together this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. I will picking up the rest of this series for sure, and I will continue to read this author so long as she keeps this caliber of writing up.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Imagine having to leave everything you know because there is someone stalking you. Kari Malone is living that life now. Over the past two years, she's been receiving creepy letters and other things, first at her office and then at home. When the tone of the letters changed and found the guy actually standing over her bed one night, she decided that her safety was more important than her career.
In a move that led her to San Antonio, Kari is settling in nicely, even if she's living like a hermit. Until her boss invites her to a party hosted by a friend. A great party where she's having fun and then she seems him. The guy from five years ago. The guy that stole her body and soul for an entire night.
Slade is just as surprised to her Kari again. Only this time he's not letting her get a way. Five years is a long time to wonder what happened to the woman who graced his bed for an entire night only to wake up to find her gone. Not happening again.
Slade's time in Special Forces is adventurous but he's coming to realize that the only adventure he needs is waiting for him at home - but only if he can keep her safe. When her stalker follows her to San Antonio, Slade knows he will do everything in his power to keep her safe. Whatever it takes.
Kari and Slade had a rather frenetic and fulfilling one night stand a few years ago. A lot has happened since then but neither of them has really got rid of the feeling that there was something more that could have happened between them if they had just let it.
Kari has now moved to Texas in order to escape from a rather odious stalker. But on a rare night out she meets up with Slade yet again. They have another wild night but Slade is determined that this time he won't let her slip through his fingers. But as a Prosecutor Kari is used to getting her own way. When Slade learns that she has a stalker he and the rest of the Strike Force make it a personal mission to protect Kari.
Kari is used to being in control of her life and the stalker is throwing her off balance. But she feels so safe with Slade that she is willing to give up her happiness and satisfaction into his very expert hands. Slade and the boys like a bit of BDSM but not all of it so it's kind of BDSM light! Kari is more stubborn than is good for her but other than that I liked the fact that she was smart and independent and not some wimpy, weepy female!
Looking forward to reading the other team members stories!
There are two versions of this book. I read the revised edition with the stalker plot and not the BDSM club plot. I won a copy of the book at a book release event and I read it as a courtesy to the author. Honestly, aspects of the story aren't my cup of tea, but for those who like a special ops hero with commitment issues and a strong heroine who faces off against criminals on a daily basis, both of whom are haunted by memories of a sizzling night together five years earlier, this is a well written story. I liked the suspense of the stalker plot and the result it had in moving Kari and Slade' s relationship forward.
Great story about Delta Force Cmdr. Slade and prosecuting attorney Kari who met in Chicago 5 years earlier and had one night of hot sex. Neither has ever forgotten that night. Fast forward five years. Kari has spent the past two years being stalked by a psycho. She has left Chicago for a job in San Antonio with help from her colleagues. She meets Slade again at a cocktail party and the sparks start to fly again. This is not just a story about the H/h. His three other team members have storylines too. Although I thought parts were repetitive I enjoyed this story and it's HEA.
I liked the main characters and the brotherhood of the Delta guys. Their protectiveness is great. However, with modern technology I found it hard to believe the stalker would not have been able to find her with the resources he had. Many things in this book happened to help the story along but were questionable for me. Sweet ending.
Didn't see that outcome coming, very nice to come from left field like that. The chemistry was strong with Kari and Slade, surprised a pregnancy wasn't mentioned. Great way for her bosses to get it together, and Slade for all his questions. Nothing was mentioned as for how long they had left on the tour or if they were in for life. Thanks Desiree.
When an attorney finds herself with a stalker on her trail she flees and moved to a new city and a new job. Then with a chance meeting she finds an old flame. Together they overcome the stalker and find happily ever after.
Was okay read but could have been better. Female lead was an assistant d a but felt immature to me. Slade was okay but just okay. Not a series I’ll pursue.
