Combining four volumes from DK's Computer Essentials series, an accessible and easy-to-use volume for novice and experienced Internet users alike presents all the tips, tricks, and techniques necessary to exploring the ever-growing online world.
This was written in 2000, mentions IE for Win98, Outlook Express e-mails and so on, so we have to allow for that, meaning I can't give it top rating now; at the time it was probably the best guide available. Combining four books in one hardback means that readers can work up in skill as they progress the pages and don't need to go looking for the next instalment. On the other hand, the sheer volume could be daunting to a beginner.
The pages contain drawings and screenshots to show how to do a search, a Boolean search etc. and they go into items like AltaVista. Then the later parts develops skills into creating Word Docs and inserting images. They use menus and clipart that will be familiar to those of us who used Word for years, but now look a bit grey and clunky.
The last part shows how to start putting a basic website together, links, adding images and tables. It refers to Microsoft FrontPage which I never used. All told, this seems to be concentrating on Microsoft and this would have been the general system available to users.
