William Joseph Long (1867-1952) was an American writer, naturalist and minister. He lived and worked in Stamford, Connecticut as a minister of the First Congregationalist Church.
First chapter is about authors encounter with a black-capped chickadee. Looks like each chapter is another bird so this would be a fine book to read in bits or for a nature or bird lover who is not yet a prolific reader. The chapter is sprinkled with some interesting facts about the chickadee, but the bulk of the prose paints a visual and audible picture of his observations. This is the first William Long book for me and I am already liking his writing style. This looks like a treat of a read!
...Just finished reading this treasure! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and highly recommend it to those that appreciate being in the outdoors and observing creation. Loads of interesting encounters with "wings" that left me in awe and sometimes giggling. Delightful read. Next best thing to BEING IN the outdoors firsthand!
