Volume six continues a treatise begun in 1983 (the first four volumes were originally published by Macmillan but are now available from McGraw-Hill), but its path to publication has been different. Chinese scientists have been at the forefront in research on perennial crops for a number of years, and this work, as a translation and adaptation of a book published originally in China (Higher Education Press), represents a collaborative effort with contributions and literature citations primarily from Chinese sources.
