After twenty-five years in prison for shooting the men who'd killed his wife, John Henry Trapp is eager to return to the high, rugged mountain where he'd once been so happy. However, there are some old enemies who think the only way Trapp can pay his debt to society is in a pine box six feet under. Though the strapping mountain man may no longer have youth on his side, he can still shatter a whiskey bottle at 100 feet and outwit the cleverest poker player. But a quarter-century is a long time to be away, and just one misstep could put him in the grave.

Really enjoyable book. I liked the characters here very much, the older man, Trapp, who has spent 25 years in prison, and the younger man, Fry, who is a good man with a gun. Well written book.
A good book by a younger author. Trapp was sentenced for murder for twenty five years. He did his time and is headed home. He teams up with a young gun fighter and they are partners. There is a good relationship between the two. They face hardship and it is exciting. I will read more books this author.
Mr. Rand is I has written a good story. However, he explains a lot that people who read Western should already understand! Life is hard and unforgiving in the old west .
Couldn't buy the relationship between the old ex con and the young gun. Didn't buy the great shape the ex con was in after 25 years in prison. Didn't like the open ending. Is there another book that finishes this story? Don't tell me. Don't care. Won't read.
