A good, well-written biography emphasizing the photographer as pioneer not only for being a woman in her field but specific accomplishments in industrial settings, commercial success with LIFE and Fortune as well as a war correspondent, etc. Much is stressed on her books and photography to highlight social justice issues to the Deep South (with Erskine Caldwell) to South African miners.

I encourage everyone to read this book because it shows such will power of Ms. Bourke-White. Reading about her travels to different parts of the world just to take pictures for LIFE magazine is breathtaking because she was the first westerner to travel to Russia and was welcomed there for her time. I've never seen anyone, especially a woman, who would enter World War II with a simple task of taking pictures for a photo essay. Bourke-White's determination truly inspires me to go beyond my limits and explore to fulfill my long life dreams.
