This poem is so long! At first I did not realize it was an alphabet poem. Where there is a page/ sentence for each letter of the alphabet. But, it was very fun to read even though it was very long. I will read this to my students as well, I think there can be a lot of takeaways from this story.

This fictional narrative is about a young boy who admires his teacher and tells of all the different students that she could teach. The main character narrates the story and discusses what each student could be career wise, because of their inspiring teacher. Each page shows a unique student engaging in their careers with the assistance of the teacher. He talks about the teacher teaching an astronaut, a president, or a novelist. As a teacher, I will use this text to teach about different career choices. In addition, each career begins with each letter of the alphabet (ex. carpenter, dentist, engineer, firefighter, etc.), which will be good for teaching the alphabet and sound recognition. The book will also be useful for phonemic awareness because the sentences end with rhyming words, and students can practice comparing and contrasting sounds.

The book is about a kid that is describing how amazing his teacher is. How she can do many different things from teaching about ballet dancers to how to fish, and how he was excited that she was teaching him. There isn’t the main character in the book, its many different characters that are around the teacher. The text structure is repeating with the same “ she could teach... “ As for the illustration in the book seem to be made on a computer to look like they used color pencils. I like how the book has different things that a teacher can teach, but I think it could use more like why the teacher is so great or why she is his favorite teacher. I think this book would be good when there is a guest teacher in class or when it’s teacher’s day.

Summary: This story is about a young boy who admires his teacher and tells of all the students that she could teach. Each page shows a different student engaging in their chosen career with her assistance and encouragement. The teacher is able to teach engineers, firefighters, illustrators, and even veterinarians! On the last page, the book shows a letter that the boy is writing expressing how excited he is to learn from his new, highly-skilled teacher.

Theme: The theme of this book is centered around the important role that teachers play in their students lives. It teaches children to admire all the hard work that their teachers put into making them the greatest version of themselves.

Personal Response: I absolutely love the meaning behind this book and the lesson that it teaches. Even to this day, I feel that becoming a teacher is the most rewarding career because we truly are shaping the young minds of tomorrow. The illustrations are guaranteed to put a smile on your face once you see how much fun these children are having in these careers!

Recommendation: I recommend this book because it not only teaches an important lesson, but it also lists the careers in alphabetical order as well as rhymes (sound recognition), so it could easily be incorporated into an english lesson. This book is not content heavy, so it is ideal for early readers. Overall, I really enjoyed this good-hearted read.
