For use in schools and libraries only. Before he can go fishing, a boy has to figure out how to get himself, his dog, and all his gear out to an island in a boat that can only carry 100 pounds.
I thought this book was very well written and can apply to various subjects in school as well as real life scenerios. This book is ideal for problem solving. The basis of the story is the boy encountering a number of problems while taking a fishing trip and uses math including measuring to solve the problems. I think the book would be a very fun read for young students, and the book is written in a way in which students will be interested in problem solving.
This is a cute math problem for kids around 3rd grade. It explains how to solve for an unknown quantity. It just seems overly drawn out, but kids might enjoy it. As a book to read, it seemed just OK to me. I know the other reviewers said very good things about the book, so maybe I have kids' book fatigue.
Excellent problem solving book. Introduces weight and measuring. Also includes balancing. The students would be able to come up with solutions for the characters. The book also touches on inventions. Would be useful for either math, science or a social studies lesson.
Good book about a math problem. Will look into other books by Math Matters. Not books I would own but definitely check them out at the library..krb 8/23/16
