Personal Computers and Intelligent Systems, Volume Volume III

Rate this book
Two main themes are addressed in this Expanding the Power of the Personal Computer, and Enhancing Intelligence in Informational Systems. For the first time in IFIP's history, special attention is being given to the field of Personal Computers (PCs). For more than a hundred million people internationally, these machines are the gateway to the world of computer-aided work. The enormous impact of personal computing on society has made this area a focus of attention for the computer industry as a whole. Not surprisingly, the tremendous expansion in the ways in which personal computers are applied poses many new and interesting technical challenges. The second theme of this volume has become an even more important area of research given the broader community of users made possible by PCs. The problems of incorporating human knowledge and decision-making skills into intelligent information systems are among the most interesting and difficult of those facing system designers. This volume concludes with a discussion of various ways to conduct cooperative research programs in line with IFIP's role as a facilitator of collaboration between academia and industry.
