A reasonably well written book about people and life in a medieval town. While most of the information is good, I do question some of the author and illustrator's choices.
For example, they talk about throwing sticks and stones, but illustrate it with a picture of throwing fish and tomatoes. They label simple pictures like eggs and cloth while ignoring more specialized vocabulary. They talk about "good food, medicine, and nursing care" on a page otherwise talking about the dangerous, ineffective medical procedures of the time. Finally, the book ends with the plague, rather than anything upbeat, summative, or looking into the next century.
Outstanding book for younger readers, yet still interesting to older ones. Great color illustrations that enhance the text. A small book (38 pages), yet provides an excellent overview of Medieval times. Grades 3-8
