Dreams In Ruin: A Science Fiction Space Opera Action Adventure

Rate this book
First the thunderstorm, then the dragon, now four-armed fly aliens with technosticks… How could this day get any worse?

Dash is a not-so-mild-mannered automaton manager by day, and a level-60 interverse archmage by night. After discovering a mysterious code in the server farms, she travels to Dig Site Six, searching for the source of the anomaly. But through a series of unexpected events, Dash finds herself lost in the Crimson Forest. Little does she know, dangerous things lurk within the bioluminescent trees at night. Not only will Dash be forced to confront these looming threats, but she'll also find an ancient secret hidden deep within the woods. An ancient secret with the power to change the fate of the Twelve Realms.

The best way to describe Realm Wars would be if you mixed Mass Effect and Lord of the Rings, then added a sprinkle of Alice In Wonderland.

Within this space opera action-adventure, you'll find spaceships, futuristic weapons, engaging characters, and alien races. Not to mention secret societies, ancient ruins, mystical energies, and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Very creative world, tech, critters! Excellent!!

Splendid world-building, well-crafted and interesting characters, and a great storyline swept me in and kept me glued to the pages as they flew by. Really a innovative tech and the promise of much more from this point onward in a greatly expanded sphere of ancient tech dimensions makes this a great series to follow into stellar realms of wonder. Im hooked!

I was totally pulled into this story. Mixing sci-fi with mythology and even a touch of magic was just brilliant. I really liked all of the characters, but found Dash the one who made me smile the most. Dash was an interesting person with unique skills, history and a great affinity for games in a virtual world. Her playful/snarky side displayed in her thoughts and humanity of struggling with job, friends and gift shopping commitments made her feel the most relatable. I think the whole setting introducing both real and virtual world challenges tied into history and maybe even rogue computer viruses exposed a very interesting plot. Although an initial situation found resolution, I’m really looking forward to the can of worms that this “encounter” will have exposed.

The heroine, Dash, is not a flamboyant kick butt kind of character. She is one of the best programmer/software engineers in the sector. She has trouble getting along with her boss, but then the only people that apparently like him are the corporate higher ups.

The story takes place on a remote planet in a distant sector of space. Dash would like to work in the central section but being a "back water" individual she doesn't have much prospects of being hired by a reputable company there.

Josh Coker, the author, has an interesting way of talking about Dash's involvement with programming and troubleshooting the various servers and operating systems that I enjoyed. Being one myself I would like to have had something like it myself.
