A Time to Blossom
For generations, a love of flowers, an understanding of nature, and a knowledge of the secrets of plants has passed seamlessly from mother to daughter to granddaughter. In its deliciously entertaining text and through its beautiful photographs, A TIME TO BLOSSOM captures the essence of childhood.
Whether she is climbing an apple tree, squirming through a proper tea-party visit with an elderly neighbor, dashing to hang a May basket on a friend's door, or sitting crowded and cranky on a Sunday ride with the family, Tovah Martin's childhood memories will captivate the reader. With Richard Brown's glorious photography, A TIME TO BLOSSOM reminds us of the authors' earlier book, TASHA TUDOR'S GARDEN. The text is frank, impish, nostalgic, but never cloying or sentimental. It is a recollection of childhood with all the mischief, the mystery, and the innocence intact.
And for readers who want to enjoy their own mother and daughter flower projects, A TIME TO BLOSSOM is filled with practical How to make a hollyhock doll; weave a garland; press pansies, bake a scented geranium cake, force bulbs, dry flowers, make rose potpourri, grow a giant amaryllis, and much much more.

A Garden of Breathtakingly Beautiful Colors
Fully capturing a sense of childhood wide-eyed wonder, Ms. Martin shares with readers now and for years to come her passion for flowers and gardening. Complementing her fine text are photographs of strikingly lovely and beautiful women and girls - a beautiful tribute to mothers and daughters to parallel Ms. Martin's desire for readers to convey their love for blossoms to their own daughters. It's a beautiful book with a beautiful message.

Richard Brown’s charming and lovely photographs of mothers and daughters and flowers illustrate this book of memories by Tovah Martin. Tovah remembers hiding in the hydrangea shrub, eating cake tinged with rose geraniums, blowing dandelions, Sunday drives when the daffodils were in bloom, and dozens of other vignettes full of the sight, smell, and glory of flowers and the warmth, love, and companionship of her mother. Sweet.

Much like Tasha Tudor's Garden, A Time to Blossom is full of charm and nostalgia. Without painting her childhood as perfectly charmed with a perfect mother, Tovah Martin certainly narrows in on the best parts of childhood and discovering the wonders and fascinations of nature and gardening from your own backyard.
