Trying to actually read the coffee table books I've amassed over the years. This book has gorgeous black and white photos, though I wish there was context on individual photos. (Not giving a star rating because it's mostly pictures.)

This is a gorgeous book. Sanford Roth took some of the finest pictures of our tragic hero ever taken. They're humorous, touching, funny, sexy, stage plays, movie performance/studio shots pictures at his house, in his art studio--reproduced in extra large format: scrumptious! And then after all the exhilaration, Dean's unfortunate demise. But the book's epilogue ends softly and sensitively with a fabulous 11 x17 photo of Dean in a photo taken at a table with his Siamese cat floating on a 21 x 16 two-page spread. Roth captures all the good things, the funny things, some sad things but mostly a very sexy vibrant wonderful American. A real terrific book. My copy has a different cover and possibly a bigger format ISBN 0821411206.

I've had this book since I was a teenager. I leaf through this book from time to time, just because I'm drawn to the charismatic James Dean. You wonder, though, how much of a poser James was or if he was just that photogenic? All on black and white, it's still timeless. Still on good shape too. I'll never part with it. For those who are fans, if its not in a bookstore, check Amazon or a second hand book store.
