Just the Facts: Writing Your Own Research Report, written by Nancy Loewen is a cute, fun, and educational fiction story about researching. This story goes through the research process step by step and teaches children how to organize research information. Each page is filled with colorful and interesting illustrations. Next to the illustrations are definitions, content-specific vocabulary words, and examples of the research in action.
This story would be an awesome resource for many age groups of kids when teaching how to research. Teachers can use this book, especially for teaching animal research projects, since the main character in the story models how to research a platypus. The story and information are laid out in a very specific and organized way easily accessible to many readers, and the illustrations will get the audience engaged. I cannot wait to use this book during my animal research project with my second graders!

Obviously, this was a book that I was thinking about for school... I am so excited to have found this. It walks a student through the research process; a task we cover in fourth grade. Even more exciting is the topic that is used as the example in the book - the platypus. Being that we do animal reports, I am thrilled.
The author provides tools for the researcher, and guides the reader through the process of research from choosing a topic to bibliography, the 13 tools are essential for being a responsible researcher.

March 22, 2015This information book walks students through the research process step by step. Just the Facts: Writing Your Own Research Report would be a great book to introduce the research process to upper elementary students. It would also be good to use as a review for middle school students. The book covers important aspects of the research process such as outlining, bibliography and proofreading. The female character in the book writes her own paper as the steps are illustrated, giving students an example to view.

I've been a professional tutor and academic coach for 16 years. This is by far THE BEST resource for all ages (elementary school all the way to university) on how to organize and do research. I've been using it for all my English students, and students who are writing essays for other courses since I came across it at a library four years ago.

Great step up-- every 2 pages give a tool and an example of it in action. Beautiful illustrations and not too many words per page.

This book would be used for teaching how to write a research report. I would do a writer's workshop mini lesson that would involve all the steps to writing a research essay.
