This book picks up not long after My Shining Stepbrother and let me just say, Matty and Elena's story tops Resse and Roses' in my opinion.
For all of her life Elena has been trained to do one thing- kill- and boy is she good at it. With a reputation as well known as the boys, it is a miracle that only her codename is known. That all changes when Matty and his friends walk into the bar where she is (temporarily) working as a bartender. Not one for connections, she pushes Matty away just like everyone else she is surrounded with, but does she have the power to keep him away or will his charm and persistance finally break down her walls?
I loved the connection between Matty and Elena. Where Resse and Rose had more of an instant chemistry without fighting their desires, Matty and Elena do not. Fearful of connections because of her upbringing, she is much more resistant to any advance or conncetion she feels from Matty. It takes an extreme amount of persuasion for her to finally break her walls down and even then, their relationship is a test. The chemistry between those two though is evident and impossible to ignore and jumps off the page everytime these two are together.
I also loved all of the plot twists thrown into this story. The first story certainly wasn't lacking in that department, but I feel like there were elevated perfectly in this book. Woven between scenes of budding relationships and friendships, you really get a good sense of how all of these stories are connected to each other and they all add a level of depth that is unmatched in some other series of this type.
Book 2 was a roller coaster that I did not want to get off. I can't wait to see what book 3 brings and how this series ends.

My Shining Bad Boy is book 2 in the Shining series. Although, it follows a different couple, it's recommended to read the books in order, as it's interconnected.
I am so loving this series. This is a tad bit more darker than the first book, but I'm so here for it! Elena and Matty are so delicious together and the possessiveness, just ahhh amazing! Each book seems to get better and better. Can't wait for Trigger and Ashley's story!

Wow. Where to even begin. This was a lot darker than the 1st book from what i remember. I really loved everything about this book. Especially Elena and Matty. I love how the characters connect through the books. Can’t wait to read the next one to learn more about trigger.

This will Elena and Marty story. Elena is an kickbutt, take no name FMC. She will met Matty while work an temporary job bartending. They will have instant chemistry from the beginning. But she will fight her attraction and her feelings for him because of her past. He will have show her that she can trust him. This is an incredible addition to this series.

I loved reading My Shining Bad Boy. It is the 2nd book of My Shining Stepbrother. Lets just say that it is my favorite so far.
I loved how it was action-packed and made me laugh. I found Matty and Elena’s characters relatable. I liked how it kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what happens next. I like that I could picture myself in the book clearly, It was easy to imagine. That is a big thing for me in books, I like being able to be a part of the story and I wasn't disappointed. I felt like I could connect with Elena and Matty's characters in a way.
I am excited to see Trigger's story next, I can't wait!

Elena's father raised her to destroy everything in her path. She has never known anyone but her father and his followers. Never had a boyfriend. Never been kissed. She never gets too close to anyone because she knows her father will tell her to take care of them... because she is The Ghost.
She had never been interested in getting to know anyone until the woman and three men entered the bar where she worked. She knows that she should say no when they invite her to sit with them after her bartending shift ends, but despite the danger she finds herself drawn to them.
Rose comes back from the bar after getting the guy's beers and tells him he needs to see the gorgeous redhead tending the bar. Matty can tell she is trying to set him up but who would want to be around him when they found out they were trained killers.
But he knows immediately that she's his lobster.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book can be read as a standalone I would recommend that you read Reese and Rose's story, My Shining Stepbrother, to get the full background of these recurring characters.
This book is action-packed, full of danger and smoking hot. Beware if you don't read dark romance with elements of torture then this book may not be for you, but if you want a book full of anti-hero assassins go no further.
The girl who grew up tortured and abused by her father finally finds her way to freedom. Highly recommend and can't wait to read Trigger's story.

Holy ducking duck, ya'll. Ms. Baker has done it again. I swear this girl keeps winning. She can’t seem to stop, and I’m soooooo okay with that.
Okay, first of all, Elena is a BADASS. This girl is beautiful and an incredible asskicker who takes no names and gives no f*cks. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. And I seriously love her.
And Matty. Ooooh… Matty. How I have been waiting for your book, and how I didn’t want it to end. I could read you all day long. And if I didn’t love Elena so much, or fear her as I do, I’d totally fight her to make you mine.
Seriously, though. This book is so original and beautiful. The characters are both so flawed, yet so perfect. This author knows just how to grip your neck, throw you into the story, and make you beg for mercy until the last word. And then make you beg for more.
If you haven’t read anything by Kayla Baker yet, don’t procrastinate anymore. She’s so f*cking incredible. This is another unputdownable book by her, and I CAN’T WAIT for the conclusion to this series.

Elena and Matty are HOT, HOT, HOT!! Elena is the ultimate killer and she is not here for ANY type of relationship with Matty but he perseveres!!! This story is #2 in the series and it’s best if you read them in order. I love how we got some glimpses for Rose and Reese in this story as well! This one was a bit darker than #1 and believe it or not, it had even MORE twists and turns! Man, Kayla Baker is amazing at keeping you guessing! I think I liked this one even more than the first one and I can’t wait for #3! It’s going to be EPIC!!!

Elena is a kickbutt the way she put Matty's ex in her place at the bar, priceless. Matty for the first time felt that pull to his lobster and did not want lose that before it even began. Elena was tough because that is how she was raised. It was a great read that had me completely entangled.

This was a fun fast paced action romance. There are questions left at the end that will make you desperate to read the next book.

This is the second time I have read this book. It gets better and better. I love the chemistry in this story. The storyline is different and pulls you in. I would recommend this to anyone.

This book is exciting from start to finish. Detailed in an incredibly nice way. You really feel how the author develops with each book that comes out. This one has it all and I could read a book like this every day of the year. The lobster comparison is so incredibly funny, I love when there are such similarities. A book that you can't put down once you've started reading.
Absolutely fantastic to have a female
character who is both harder and darker than most with a past no one would want to experience. Add a male character who is sweet as sugar by comparison and you have Matty. The journey they make through the book is absolutely incredible.
Dark , sweet, hot and spicy , and an incredible amount of excitement !!
Can´t wait for the next. Recommend this book any day of the week!!

Wow!!!! I could not put this book down. This book had such a great storyline. Matty and Elena have instant chemistry but Elena wants to fight the attraction. Matty and his friends make her see that they are there for her with no strings attached. Loved it!!!! Can't wait for Trigger's turn.
