I first came upon this slender title in 1991. Written by Mary E. Giles, professor of Humanities and Religious Studies at California State University, it reflects upon the humanity and ministry of women in both the lay and religious life. In a small yet important way, this title changed my life and introduced me to the writings of female mystics and Holocaust diarist Etty Hillesum.
