Slouching towards Utopia. An Economic History of the 20th Century by J. Bradford DeLong is an entertaining, thought provoking and engaging book which perfectly balances personal opinion, factual details, causes and affects as it charts the "Long twentieth century" from 1870 to 2020. Its intelligent without ever being boring and only rarely did I feel my lack of economic knowledge hinder my understanding but never my enjoyment.
