* Chronicle of climbing accidents in North America
* Tables that show demographic trends and causes of accidents
* Analyses that provide “lessons learned” without laying blame
* Listing of Mountain Rescue groups

The venerable Alpine Clubs of the U.S. and Canada work together to compile rock and alpine climbing accident descriptions from each year in hope that mountaineers will learn from them and recreate more safely as a result.

The arrival of the annual Accidents in North American Mountaineering in late summer is eagerly awaited by climbers. This annual handbook offers detailed reports on climbing accidents that occurred in the United States and Canada in 2010. Produced jointly by the Safety Committees of the American Alpine Club and the Alpine Club of Canada, Accidents in North American Mountaineering details what happened and analyzes what went wrong in each climbing accident to give mountaineers the opportunity to learn from others' mistakes.

I always keep these on my nightstand for a little light reading before bed. I have been ordering one every year since the early 1990's. Exceptionally valuable information for anyone who ever thought about venturing into the wilderness, let alone becoming a climber.

Solid as usual. Editing was weaker this issue with a couple of layout gaffes and a few grammar/spelling mistakes. These are churlish complaints in my opinion, the value of the work far outweighs a few slips in presentation.

As usual, ANAM is essential reading. This year there is a tutorial section.
