I had to pick this up off the shelf in light of recent news. What I wasn't expecting was a romp through quite such an eventful life, particularly in Boyle's younger years. Some of it is fantastical to the point of evoking scepticism (and the numerous factual inaccuracies in the small section on her Eurovision involvement do make me wonder just how many liberties have been taken with the truth elsewhere), but even with my pedant's hat on, I didn't feel it spoiled my enjoyment especially - indeed, reading this felt like spending an afternoon in the company of the lady herself, privileged but self-aware, recounting the rambling story of her life with a sense of melodrama and a charming mixture of vagueness and precision. What's not to like?
