Here we have a political thriller which, usually, is right up my alley. It has all the ingredients; a U.S. District Court Judge who happens to be the wife of POTUS and is sitting in judgment of a mafia kingpin accused of murdering another federal judge; a high profile defense attorney with questionable ethics who is looking for dirt on the judge and a "know it all" fixer who is POTUS' Chief of Staff. The storyline starts out OK but as we work through it I thought it stretched credibility. It
also got lost a couple of times in legal rhetoric. It was just OK in my opinion.

Is it bad that I wanted the blackmail scandal to work?

Overall this wasn’t a bad book. There were a few plot holes, like the fact that even if Paula was convicted of murder she could’ve easily just been pardoned because her husband is literally the president. The family’s interactions were a little forced and cringy, but I almost feel like that was the point.
