Grace Wiradi, my Bible Study pal, gave this as a Christmas of '07 cross-cadeau. The note was: "Dibaca ya bukunya sampe selesai". I did, this morning. One intriguing fact is that the writer explained that one way to know if I belonged to this procrastinator circle was I'd carried the book for 6 months and had just the chance to read it now. It's now approaching end-of-year '09, so I guessed I really needed the book.

The book is generally divided into 2 major sections:1)Reasons to leave procrastinating behind and 2)How to do it for good.

What I learned most is that if I do delay things, not only will I lose many golden opportunities, I will also have the chances to end up fatally. Among these consequences are: losing a promotion (minor), falling to a serious-stage illness (major), and being too "spiritually late" when the time on earth is up(mega major massive consq.)

However, some delays are worth doing: the prices for electronics usually go down as time passes by, and giving more time to know our future spouse is something we will not regret. To know when to hold and when to seize the opportunity is something we have to consult with our Lord, so having a good relationship with Him is essential.
One thing that we all have to delay is...Commit Sin. When the urge comes, delay it as much and as often as possible, and eventually it will fade away. (it works at times, in my case)

Thus, for the secong half of the book, there are 6 keys to cope with procrastination:

1. SET PRIORITIES
Usually people have these priorities: God, Family, Work, Social Life.
From each, we can have goals: read Bible every night, pay monthly dues, etc., etc. Our priorities normally determines which goal we want to achieve first.

2. PLAN AND DO STEP BY STEP
How to eat an elephant? Bit by bit. If there's a task too great, do it bit by bit. Delegation (when possible) is also to be considered.

3. BUILD A MOMENTUM
Seize the day! "The Big Mo" (momentum) doesn't happen twice.

4. SET DEADLINE
Challenge ourself by setting our own deadline. If a teacher asks something to be submitted by September 1st, it's challenging to set deadline days earlier.

5. STICK AND CARROT
Rewarding oneself after a task gives you the motivation to complete a project ASAP. I'm currently craving for a starfruit. But I gotta finish this review first. Whew!

6. RESPONSIBILITY AT THE END OF THE ROAD
Why start and finish something if the quality sucks? We sometimes use our boss so we will give our best work. But as believers, we know that everything we do is under the scrutinity of the Lord above. Isn't that reason enough to do everything under the sun?

All in all,

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12.
