I read this book because it was about Arthur Mellette, a man whom I only knew as the Governor of our state. I learned a great deal about his life and that he is indeed, a great man. He was very noble and hard working and did a lot for South Dakota.
However this is not a book for people who aren't into more obscure information. The author was a frequent user of the exclamation point, a fact that the 1800 South Dakotans would be leery of and also he got highly personal with his subject matter. He would frequently refer to historical figures as "that old rascal", etc which was strange. The book was not very well edited and I stopped counting the typos. Also, the pictures were very dim and didn't show much detail unless they were period pictures of the family.
I felt like this was a book with a lot of promise that did not get fulfilled.
