This specification defines the requirements for the design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and documentation of ball, check, gate, and plug valves for application in pipeline and piping systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries. This specification is not applicable to subsea pipeline valves, as they are covered by a separate specification, API 6DSS. This specification is applicable to valves for the following pressure ratings Class 150, Class 300, Class 400, Class 600, Class 900, Class 1500, and Class 2500.
