This book contains the story of the female mystics of Medieval Europe. By practicing mystism they skirted the power hungry clerics to give the world a better understanding of God although their influence was felt it never overrode the clerical notions about the place of women in the church and family. But it does give us the stories of some remarkable women.

I heard Dr. Malone speak in the late 1990s at the University of Victoria. Never forgot her.

In this volume Mary Malone explroes teh fascinating period of the medieval world, from 1000 to 1500. She brings to life women who were mystics and doctors of the church together with those who suffered persecution for pushing boundaries that would one day become mainstream. She gives us history that inspires and values that endure.
