Very interesting venture and history involved in how the Native Americans and Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast in America. Also looked at other countries celebrations of thanks over the years! Very fun especially with many recipes included toward the end!!

What I was expecting, based on the title and cover illustration of the Indians and Pilgrim's first Thanksgiving, was US and European history. The author went deeper and delivered an outstanding book on the worldwide history of Thanksgiving traditions.

Wonderful details about harvest times from the past hundreds, of thousands of years, thanking Mother Earth from cultures as far reaching as the Ancient Greeks and Romans, Hebrews, and Egyptians, to Japanese emperors, China, and India to Europe and North, Central, and South America all while paralleling how the US came to celebrate as we do today.

And the author keeps the amazing food traditions in line, as well providing Aztec, Iroquois, European, and Colonial recipes weaved into the history: Aztec Pumpkin Flower Tortillas, Iroquois Succotash, Frumenty, Pilgrim Stuffing, Corn Dodgers, Popcorn Cake Mennonite, Schwenkfelder Apple Butter and of course, Cranberry Conserve and how to cook a Turkey, along with many other delectable options.
