Finding Your North is a collection of key historically unspoken insights for students pursuing careers in science and medicine. The authors of this book are the mentors that students always hoped for, but never found. They will help one find their way to true North--which may be a traditional career in medicine or science or an exciting alternative career that requires a strong scientific foundation. This book will dare you to dream your perfect career and empower you to actualize it. Original.
This book was given to me from this program called PITCH at UCSF. Finding Your North is a book that was written to help students that are skeptical of what they want to do in life and if they really want to be in the Medical Field. The book also provides insites of how being a medical student is like and if medicine fits your interests. It is more of a Self-Help Book to chosing a job and path in life in attaining your dream career if it is related to the Medical Field.
A theme in the book would be "Help from the Experienced" and a quote in the book that supports this theme would be "In their chapters, the authors provide extremely useful advice based on their own personal experiences, discussing proven strategies for academic success."
I think this book is very helpful and has a lot of useful tips that can be applied to everday life and even in High School, but the book becomes too dry and boring after a while. The first sign of it being bland was when I didn't want to read it anymore. Another sign would be when I started easily predicting what they would talk about next based on the title. This is a book that I would only recommend to someone who really needs some guidance in their life to receive some common goals and tips in life and in the medical field. Other than that, I don't think any of my friends would like it since we have similar classes and the majority of the things are talked about in school.
