Raphael Tuck Antique Paper Dolls in Full Color

Rate this book
Around the turn of the century, the London firm of Raphael Tuck & Sons, Co., Ltd. - publishers of Queen Victoria - published charming collections of full-color paper dolls. Today, these highly valued antiques occasionally turn up at auctions, but rarely as complete sets.Reproduced directly from rare originals in The Children's Museum in Boston, Massachusetts, this full-color collection - first printed in 1894 - includes seven appealing young figures and 26 costumes, with outfits depicting such fairy-tale favorites as Little Bo Peep, Mother Goose, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack Horner and Dick Whittington (with his cat). In addition to these well-loved characters, the collection also contains lordly Lionel, Royal Regie, Sweet Abigail and Darling Hilda, with their richly detailed court dress and everyday wear.

As a special feature of the collection, heads and bodies of each doll are printed separately so that when the head is glued to the top of the neck, costumes can be slipped beneath the chin and the figure's hair will fall over the fromt of each outfit. Here is a volume to delight collectors and paper doll enthusiasts of all ages.
