Second book in a row in this series with a super dark backstory, yay! A historical site in the twins’ town is basically a fictional version of the lost colony of Roanoke, except everyone definitely died.

At age nine, I think this was the first time I learned that fatal knife wounds left marks on bones. A very formative morbid fun fact for me.

I loved the mystery and the resolution, but the amount of chaos going on with human remains and priceless historical artifacts was giving me so much secondhand anxiety. I don’t care whodunnit, none of these people are working in this field ever again. Zeke is definitely going to have to burn that sweatshirt, right?
