This anthology will be of interest to anyone who is interested in late 20th-century science fiction.

It is the first anthology from the storied Clarion Writers' Workshop. It represents the class of 1970, and features students who later became well known in the field: Octavia Butler, Vonda McIntyre, Ed Bryant, George Alec Effinger, and Glen Cook. What is interesting is that it also has award-winning stories by students who never developed a writing career. Some of these notables include Robert Thurston and C. Davis Belcher.

What also makes this anthology exceptional is that there are short critical essays by the instructors: Fritz Leiber, Samuel Delany, Joanna Russ, Harlan Ellison, Kate Wilhelm, Damon Knight, and Frederick Pohl.
