Summary: Two children go out to trick-or-treat on halloween night. they see many groups of spooky things. These people, places or things are called nouns and this book shows what groups of nouns are called and how to help kids understand what it means to be a collective noun. Eval: I enjoyed this book and its holiday relation. It showed great pictures of the groups of things and described them as a group so students can see what it means to be collective rather than just having one noun. Teaching Tip: I used this book after teaching the concept of collective nouns. The students enjoyed how it was halloween related and could see how the names of a group of something were different than just one. They then went to their seats and made their own examples with pictures.
A tribe of trick-or-treaters go out on Halloween and encounter groups of other Halloween-themed things including a press of ghosts, a knot of witches, and a constellation of stars. The illustrations are simple and bright and peppered with witches and black cats.
The bibliography in the author's note provides further reading in the world of group names and collection nouns.
