This is another great book by brother Wesley L. Duewel about the need of a spirit-filled life. It gives practical guidelines to be an effective servant of God. This book challenges the reader how much zeal he lacks in yearning for the presence of God always. Highly recommend for anyone who wants spiritual power in his life.

Ablaze for God is a masterpiece of Christian faith that will challenge the soul. It is also one of the best instructional manuals I have ever read for spiritual Church leadership. Dr. Wesley Duewel's classic should be read by all serious men and women of faith who share the heartbeat of God for evangelism, missions, and revival. And really, those three things are all that the church should be concerned about in these Last Days. Unfortunately, the meaty, challenging exhortations in this book are not well-received by the spiritually deaf and dumb post-moderns that fill our contemporary churches. It's a sad testimony to our lukewarmness that the best-selling books of 21st Century Christendom focus on self-improvement, self-affirmation, self-success, self-happiness, and self-centered ministry. For the self-absorbed, this book will be an uncomfortable read. The only downside of this book is that Dr. Dr. Duewel raises the bar so high in some areas that it makes one wonder if the author ever reached the pinnacles of performance he is challenging his readers to. I say that because Robert E. Coleman wrote the forward... and Coleman is best known for his outstanding book, the Master Plan of Evangelism, that challenged the church to go back to old-fashioned, Bible principles of discipleship rather than the formulas of Bible Schools to enhance church planting -- but Coleman has candidly admitted that he never implemented the principles of which he wrote. He was too much the academic ivory tower teacher who never came down from the mountain. Was Duewel of that same caliber? One wonders. Dr. Duewel was a great missionary in his early years of ministry. And he is a great writer. But I am not sure he successfully implemented all that he challenges church leaders to rise to in this wonderful, meaty, and very challenging book. Highly Recommended... but prepare to be challenged.

A convicting challenge to pray

The book was personally challenging. Some of it reads like an EM Bounds book—speaking plainly and boldly about the need for prayer and reliance on the Spirit. Some of it borders on sensationalism. He quotes Finney often…but overall never crosses any major doctrinal lines. He mentions a 2nd experience of the Spirit that is common through biographies of well-known Christians, but then attributes that to being filled and dependent. He stays very practical about what it means to be filled with the Spirit.

A quote that serves as my overall takeaway from the book: “To become a person of God we must spend much time with Jesus. The more you love Him, the more you will want to spend time with Him. A weak prayer life always testifies to a weak love of Jesus.”

This book is piercing.

With short chapters carefully expounding on each specific subject featured in the given title, it really did ”drive me to my knees”.

If you want to grow but need direction or wanting to go deeper into God but need a push, Ablaze For God seems be anointed just for hungry people.

Personally, it helped with growing in prayer and overcoming laziness I didn’t know I had. I could quote multiple sections along the lines of “a sermon is no greater than the heart of prayer behind it” or “many are too lazy to be blessed greatly”. How many times have I waited for someone’s salvation when I had the ability war for their soul or “preached whole sermons” without carrying them and myself first to Him in prayer!

I would recommend it to anyone willing to honor the many pages with dedication;)

This book was weird. First of all, it’s old school. Which is fine. I kinda expected that going in. There are obvious issues with language and eschatology that is to be expected of this era.

There were some chapters that were immensely helpful and encouraging, others that were pointless and I’m confused why they were even included in the book. With some heavy editing, it could be great.

There was also some other odd pieces and language that I’m not super knowledgeable about. Could just be an object of its time.

I’m conclusion, I’m glad I read it but I could never recommend it to anyone.

Wow...

Debe haber consagración a Dios, obediencia, dependencia total y oración.
