“Hospital Chaplaincy in the Twenty-first Century, 2nd Edition: The Crisis of Spiritual Care on the NHS” follows the history, politics, and theory of practice for chaplaincy in England. It is possible to glean from this scholarly text some universal concepts regarding the role of Chaplaincy in a post-modern age, such as providing spiritual care for nonreligious and fragmentedly religious populous. However, there are little or no practical application approaches to the role of chaplaincy, only theoretical analysis of the profession itself. There’s an indication that the book is mostly relevant to spiritual care practice in England, which has occurred for over a thousand years. In contrast, the United States has a more recent history and a more religious demographic.
