Another entry in the popular Fair Winds yoga series, this book offers simple routines that whittle flab off problem areas like stomach, thighs, butt, and arms. Illustrated with full-color step-by-step photos throughout, this book makes it easy to have a buff body while reaping the many spiritual and emotional benefits of yoga.
Quick takeaway: It emphasizes yoga, cardio, and proper nutrition, to "fight flab." Beautifully illustrated, well designed, and good content. Written by a credible author.
Review:
When the author wrote this, she was a fitness specialist at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. If she were to update this, she'd probably add strength training. It was written in 2004, but it still has value.
I was dubious about the book because of the title, but she includes important elements, such as goal setting, meditation, visualization, breathwork, diet (without being unhealthy), and cardio. I like that she included basic yoga poses, often with modifications, and she avoided inversions, making this a good introduction to yoga for beginners.
When I returned to yoga about 20 years ago, I found myself feeling an appreciation for my body that I hadn't ever felt. One of the joys of yoga is that it connects one's mind with the body and the breath. Breath is life.
If you're new to yoga and looking for a no-nonsense way to learn and improve your health, this is a good book. What I've learned over the past 20 years is that many people come to yoga for the physical benefits but stay for the mental and emotional benefits.
This book is great for anyone interested in trimming up with yoga. It hasn't been a miracle, but when I was working hard on it I lost a pance size. I really enjoy the stretches. Even if I don't have any time to do all of them I at least do the stretches, and I feel great! Love yoga, love this book.
Fabulous book. Even if you don't lose weight you will tone up your body and the increased flexibility is a bonus. Will definitely help with those aches and pains and will help to release tension.
