Helping women share the joys and pains of everyday life, mentoring provides a venue for discussing effective strategies for navigating the demands of being a wife, mother, friend, and businesswoman. Mentoring helps women-- Donna shows how to develop and nourish a mentoring relationship that will produce abundant spiritual fruit. Donna Otto, home and life management expert, is the author of several books, including Get More Done in Less Time, The Stay-at-Home Mom, and Finding a Mentor, Being a Mentor. She is the founder of Homemakers by Choice and speaks to women's groups across the nation. Donna and her husband, David, have a grown daughter, Anissa, and have been married for more than 30 years.
I read up to page 141 with my Titus 2 Women's group. I think it admirable for women to mentor others but can't see myself doing this. I had a relative pour out her heart to me; sharing (once again) the crimes that had been committed against her as a child and the disappointments she is currently facing. I felt so overwhelmed! We were on the phone for 2 hours and 15 minutes. I suggested counseling and AlAnon.
This book had nothing to do with finding a mentor. It was written for older women on how to be a mentor to younger women. I felt awkward reading this book as a thirty-something. She mentioned that everyone is an older woman to someone, but it was really written to women in later stages of life. It still had some great points and I'll keep it on hand as a reference, but I'm not sure I would recommend it. And again, it really is about being a mentor, and not finding one.
