After his grandfather tells him the story of how Ravna, daughter of the Sun and Moon, was captured by the Winter King, causing an extended winter, young Laplander Miko becomes convinced that this is happening again and sets out in the night to rescue her so the sun can come again.

The prose was pretty flat and dull, but I appreciated being introduced to a new folk tale and wish that Donehower had included some background notes on it. It reminded me a bit of a few other stories in which a human must intervene when winter is unnaturally prolonged, such as Lucia and the Light.
